Simply Skin Medical Spa for Women and Men

Sun Spots & Hyperpigmentation

Sun spots, skin discoloration, and blotches on the skin are all examples of excessive pigmentation.  This affects many people for all kinds of reasons, the most common cause being of exposure to the sun. No matter if we sun bathe or not, we are constantly exposed to ultraviolet light which over time ends up in freckles or blotches. Sun spots contribute to the aged appearance of sun-damaged skin.

There are other conditions that also cause hyperpigmentation of the skin such as hereditary, hormonal changes called Melasma, reaction to medications, reaction to skin treatments, and scarring from acne.

Prevention with using sun block at all times is imperative, but there are many other treatment options to consider. At Simply Skin, in addition to topical preparations for the lightening of pigmentation, we also offer Dermaceutic Spot Peels, SilkPeel, and IPL Photorejuvenation to effectively treat pigmentation.

  • Dermaceutic Spot Peel

spot peelThe Dermaceutic Spot Peel has deep action and is recommended to treat pigmentation spots, and pregnancy dark spots or melasma. Its main ingredients are Glycolic acid, Mandelic acid, Salicylic acid, and Retinyl palmitate. The Dermaceutic Spot Peel has a more highly effective concentration for your skin than gentle peels. It is advised for people with more affected problematic skin types.

The Dermaceutic Spot Peel is a simple and quick procedure and combines an in-office treatment with a homecare system to maximize results. It delivers visible results in as little as 4 weeks with decreased dark spots, improvement in fine lines and wrinkles, and diminished pore size. The results are a more even skin tone and more beautiful complexion.

  • SilkPeel

Silk PeelWe are proud to introduce in our practice the new SilkPeel Dermal infusion. The SilkPeel procedure is a clinically proven skin resurfacing treatment that utilizes a diamond treatment head to exfoliate the skin, while simultaneously delivering a topical dermaceutic at a controlled intensity that is specific to the condition we are treating.

Hyperpigmentation is the result of overactive melanocytes (the cells in your skin that create melanin, the pigment that gives your skin its "tone"). The reasons that this happens in skin are many, but fortunately, now there is Lumixyl®Pro Infusion Solution. Lumixyl® is a revolutionary breakthrough peptide solution exclusively for SilkPeel treatments. It measurably reduces the overproduction of melanin that causes uneven pigmentation and dark spots. Lumixyl® is the only skin brightener to offer all of these benefits in a single product.

A series of 6-10 treatments is recommended to achieve optimal results.

  • IPL Photorejuvenation

photorejuvenationIPL Photorejuvenation refers to the use of intense pulsed light (IPL) to improve the appearance of sun damaged and aged skin, as well as reducing spots, hyperpigmentation and redness, resulting in more youthful-looking skin.

IPL works by pulsing the skin with intense light, similar to a laser, but with lower intensity and with a wider range of wavelengths. The pulsed light energy is absorbed by targets in the skin such freckles and sun spots, and causes photothermolysis or destruction.

Depending on the aggressiveness of your treatment, you may experience varying degrees of redness and swelling, and with more aggressive treatment, some mild bruising may also occur. The spots or pigmentation will darken and then over the next week will begin peeling and flaking.

IPL Photorejuvenation treatments consistently and predictably improve the texture, tone and color of the skin while stimulating the growth of collagen, decreasing pore size and gives skin a youthful appearance. In addition to the face, any area on the body, such as the chest (décolleté), hands, arms, back, and legs can be treated with IPL Photorejuvenation.

Although you will see significant improvement with a single treatment, 3-4 treatments may be necessary to meet your personal goals.

Be sure to utilize sun protection and avoid sun exposure as much as possible to prevent skin damage immediately following IPL treatment, as well as to maintain your IPL results in the long term.
